Year 12 Italian Excursion

10 March 2023

On Friday 3 March, our Year 12 Italian students ventured to Lygon Street, Carlton, also known as Melbourne’s ‘Little Italy’. Students visited the COASIT Museo Italiano, where they participated in a lecture run by the museum curator, Maria Brancolino, as a part of their studies on the contribution of Italian migration in Australia. Students were then able to wonder through the museum exhibits, viewing items that the Italians brought with them from home, and furthering their studies of Italian mass migration after the Second World War.

Students participated in a walking tour of Lygon Street, and were able to picture life there in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Italians made it their home. And of course, what’s a visit to Lygon Street, without food?! Students were able to drink authentic Italian espresso, eat cannoli and gelato, and were then treated to a lunch of pizza and pasta at Ti Amo restaurant. Che buono!
