From the Deputy Principal, Mr Bryson

18 August 2022

Subject Selection is an opportunity for us to engage with students and families through active conversations to support them on their journey at Thomas Carr College and as they pursue future pathways.

2023 Subject Selection

Subject selection is an important part in supporting students as they transition from year to year and the conversations throughout this period aim to provide students with an insight into their future. The decisions made also contribute to our broader vision in fostering a culture of excellence from Years 7 to 12.

On Thursday 11 August, students in Years 9 and 10 attended individual Subject Selection Interviews to finalise their subject preferences for next year. I congratulate all the students who attended these interviews for the way they engaged in these conversations and for the thought they have given to selecting their subjects for next year.

Students in Years 8 and 11 have also entered their subjects for next year and I wish to acknowledge the work of all our staff in supporting students throughout the subject selection process.

We also appreciate your continued support and involvement in this process, and hope you had the opportunity to enjoy the conversations with your son or daughter about their aspirations and future pathways as they selected their subjects for 2023.

Students will receive confirmation of their subject choices for 2023 at the start of Term 4.

If you still have any questions related to the subject selection process, please contact Mr. Stephen Manitta (Head of Learning and Teaching – Middle School) or Ms. Daniela Bombardieri-Szabo (Head of Learning and Teaching – Senior School).

Questions related to the College’s Applied Learning programs and to learn more about the VET subjects offered at Year 10 and within the Senior School, please contact Mr. Casey Backhouse (Applied Learning & Vocational Training Leader).

Students are also encouraged to contact Ms. Cheryl-Anne White and the Careers Team to discuss future study, career and pathway options.

Term 3 Progress Reports

The week beginning, Monday 5 September, Term 3 Progress Reports will be available for families to access via the Parent Access Module (PAM).

Progress Reports are designed to provide feedback on a range of areas related to your child’s learning, study habits and overall progress. These reports provide feedback on your child’s progress throughout the term and form the basis for discussion at the upcoming Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences to be held at the end of this term.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Based on the current COVID-Safe protocols, the upcoming Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will be held online.

All teaching staff will be available for interviews using MS TEAMS on the following dates:

  • Monday 12 September (4pm to 8pm)
  • Thursday 15 September (4pm to 8pm)

Families will receive further information on PAM and Operoo outlining how to access their child’s Progress Report as well as how to book interviews with their child’s teachers for the upcoming Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences.

Bookings will open on Monday 5 September and close the day prior to the above listed dates.

In the meantime, we encourage your son or daughter to continue to the apply themselves to the best of their ability across all their subjects and we look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you later this term.
