This Sunday is Easter Sunday. This weekend is the highlight of the liturgical calendar. The Easter Triduum is a three-day event, Holy Thursday Easter Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Good Friday celebration of the Lords Passion, Holy Saturday Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, marking the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. The Easter Triduum marks the end of Lent and the start of the Easter Season which lasts for the 50 days until Pentecost.

On the evening of Holy Thursday, we remember the Last or Lord’s Supper where, amongst other significant events, Jesus taught vividly about Christian leadership by washing the feet of his followers. On Good Friday we mark the passion, crucifixion and death of Jesus. Holy Saturday is a silent, barren day as we reflect further on the death of Jesus and his journey into the afterlife. On Saturday night and Easter Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus as the Christ and his victory over death.

The Lenten Term has been filled with many highpoints and activities including the many events and activities listed below. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Thomas Carr College community to thank our staff for their efforts as they have been extremely hardworking and generous with their own time to enable these many events to take place.  Without the support of staff, these activities simply would not take place, so I thank staff most sincerely for their efforts. I have been extremely impressed by the College community and the real commitment to our mission of nurturing faith, and fostering positive, life-giving relationships with others, as well as providing an innovative learning environment.

This Lenten Term has been an extremely busy one and has included the following –

• Opening School Mass and Assembly

• Multicultural Youth Student Leadership Day

• Victorian Young Leader to India Program

• Parent Information Nights

• Year 12 Retreat

• SACCSS Sport

• Ash Wednesday Liturgy

• Continuation of our Tutoring Program

• Grade 5 Visits

• House Swimming Carnival

• SACCSS Interschool Swimming Carnival

• College Open Day

• NAPLAN and NAPLAN Catch-up tests

• Parent Forum- ‘Creating Stronger Learners’

• Catholic Education Week Mass and Colloquium

• Catholic Education Week Concert in the Park

• House Meetings

• Harmony Week activities

• Year 7 Camp

• Agreement to provide services to a partner school in Singapore

• Parent/Teacher Conferences

It has been an absolute pleasure to serve the Thomas Carr College community this term and there have been some wonderful achievements and much to celebrate. I ask that students take the time to reflect and enjoy these achievements, whilst also setting specific and realistic goals for Term 2. I also ask all students to challenge themselves to participate in the vast array of co-curricular activities available as part of the ‘Luminosity‘ program and to embrace and contribute to the numerous faith and social justice opportunities available at the College.

I would like to thank all teaching staff and the I.T, maintenance, counselling, learning diversity, library, support, administration and finance teams who have been working diligently to ensure a successful term.

As we conclude Term 1, we give thanks for the many enriching experiences of life and learning at our College, and we pray for a safe and restful time for students, staff and families over the Easter holiday period.

May the spirit of hope that Easter brings, inspire renewed energy, new goals and a strengthened resolve to live the Christian life in the footsteps of Jesus.

Senior School Building Update

I am excited to announce that the commencement of our new Senior School building project is scheduled to begin in Term 3 this year. The new building will house the senior students in 21 general purpose learning classrooms, as well as a Careers hub, senior student study venue and a state-of-the-art STEM centre. We look forward to the commencement of this project, the largest undertaken at Thomas Carr College, more details will be provided as the building project progresses.

Term 2 Student Return Date

Please note that Monday 24 April is a school closure day, Tuesday 25 April is the ANZAC day public holiday and Wednesday 26 April will be a staff Professional Learning Day (student free day). Students will return to the College on Thursday 27 April (Full Winter Uniform for Terms 2 and 3). Please place the date for this student free day into your calendar.

Manna Gum Drive access

Please note that students and staff will no longer be able to access the College from Manna Gum Drive from the start of Term 2 2023. This gate is now part of the new Maintenance area precinct, only accessible to the college maintenance team and external contractors.  For safety reasons this new maintenance precinct is strictly an out of bounds area for all students. The gate between St Francis and Thomas Carr College will be open in the morning, and in the afternoon from 3:15pm. A reminder to all students who access the gate between St Francis Primary School and Thomas Carr College to be patient and kind in your interactions with the St Francis staff and students, when using this gate.
