Thomas Carr College Students and the 5000 Poppies Project – A Community Tribute of Respect and Remembrance5000 poppies

As the year 11 Community Service Program came to a close students had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the community tribute of respect and remembrance of the 5000 Poppies Project creating just over 100 poppies. The Anzac Centenary marks 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War and the Anzac Gallipoli landing.  As part of the 2015 Anzac Commemoration, the 5000 Poppies Project will be “planting” a field of more than 50,000 handmade poppies in Federation Square Melbourne as a spectacular tribute to the Australian servicemen and women. "Our students were delighted and proud to be part of a meaningful and historic tribute" said Mrs Grujovski a textile teacher at the College. Many thanks also to Mrs Christine Terry who contributed some beautifully crocheted poppies.

If you would like to be part of the Thomas Carr College tribute please contact denise.tyrrell@thomascarr.vic.edu.au For background information regarding the project go to  www.5000poppies.wordpress.com and download poppy patterns.

Due date for poppies to be included in the display is 15 March 2015 so plenty of time to still get involved.
