Thomas Carr Day

19 May 2018 | General Interest

Every year in May, Thomas Carr College gathers as a College community to celebrate our Patron Archbishop Thomas Carr. On Friday May 18, we celebrated Thomas Carr Day. The day began with a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr Jude Pirotta and Fr Vincent John. Following Mass, we listened to the Thomas Carr story where we learnt about his character. Fundraising stalls and activities followed the Mass. Each Homeroom ran a stall – either food or activity based. All proceeds made from these stalls were donated to charity. Throughout the day, students enjoyed a carnival with rides and entertainment. The day concluded with Thomas Carr’s Got Talent, where students were able to showcase their talents.

There were many students who bravely performed at ‘Thomas Carr’s Got Talent’. The staff and students were entertained by a number of excellent acts and the students, who were willing to share their talents, truly did shine! The winners of the talent quest were:

• Ben Singleton and Cayley Turnbull
• Leon Varela-Mauna and Jehscey Sotelo
• Arieal Bouch
• Jaymes Flahive - award for best dance category

The College is pleased to announce that through the hard work and generosity of staff and students, we were able to raise the following amounts of money for some very worthwhile causes:

• Year 7 raised $751.90 for CatholicCare (Family Week)
• Year 8 raised $1,13690 for Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Melbourne (Opening the Doors Foundation)
• Year 9 raised $701.50 for Kuya Center for Street Children (Philippines)
• Year 10 raised $1,351.30 for Missionary Society of St Paul (Philippines)
• Year 11 raised $768.30 for St Vincent De Paul Society (Assist A Student Program)

The total amount raised was $4,710.00
