Thomas Carr Day

13 May 2016 | General Interest

Another successful Thomas Carr Day was held on Friday May 13.

The day started with the traditional Mass celebrating our Patron and included a dramatisation of his life performed beautifully by some of our younger Drama students.

At the conclusion of Mass it was outside to be immersed in the various food stalls, rides and games on offer around the College. Cheeseburgers, sausages in bread, pizza and fairy floss were the most popular fare whilst the rides always had healthy queues (and some decidedly unhealthy kids alighting them!). The chocolate toss and face painting stall was doing a roaring trade whilst it was all put beautifully to music as the resident student DJ spun the wheels of steel and had them dancing, clapping and singing throughout the grounds.

The day was finished off in the gym where the College gathered to witness the Thomas Carr's Got Talent show. And what a show it was with a number of singers, dancers and musicians from Years 7 to 12 whipping a raucous crowd into a frenzy at every opportunity. All in attendance could be left with little doubt that Thomas Carr indeed has Talent...and an abundance of it!

Although the day is about celebration and fun it is also a wonderful opportunity to fundraise for the College's various charities. Through the hard work and generosity of staff and students, we were able to raise the following:

Year 7 raised $804.70 for CatholicCare (Family Week)
Year 8 raised $580.35 for Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Melbourne (Opening the
Doors Foundation)
Year 9 raised $938.00 for Catholic Mission (Catholic Mission Month)
Year 10 raised $852.90 for ‘Young Paulists’ (St James the Apostle Parish)
Year 11 raised $1,053.50 for St Vincent De Paul Society (Assist A Student Program)

The total amount raised was and impressive $4,229.45, further demonstrating just how special and giving the Thomas Carr College community is.
