Malaya Borneo Wreath Laying ceremony

27 August 2012 | General Interest

It is now a College tradition to set aside a day each year to recognise with gratitude the members who served in the Malaya and Borneo areas. This annual event is to honour the veterans, is an integral part of our College calendar and we are proud to be the only school that has this strong association with the Malaya and Borneo veterans.

Our students have participated in the Werribee ANZAC marches since 2002 and in 2003, the College planted an Avenue of Honour along the fence line of Thomas Carr Drive. The memorial stone, that was placed at the beginning of the Avenue of Honour in 2004, was donated by a College family. The memorial was moved to its current location, at the entrance to The Paul D'Astoli Information Centre, in 2008.

On May 24 2004, Major General James Hughes unveiled the memorial plaque. Since 2006, following an invitation from the Malaya and Borneo President, and with the permission of the Returned Serviceman’s League, our students have also carried the Malaya and Borneo banner in the Melbourne ANZAC Day march.

We are also proud to be standing by the Veterans on August 31 when they celebrate their National Memorial Day at The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.
