Sleep Out Group

Once again Thomas Carr College Vinnies Group conducted the St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Students and staff  donated for those who are homeless by way of warm socks, blankets, doonas, non-perishable food and toiletries. As we brace ourselves for a cold winter, this event makes us aware that some people are less fortunate than ourselves.

Our ‘College Vinnies’  hosted our ‘Annual Winter Sleepout’ in the College Gym last Friday 24 July. This is one of their major outreach events for the year. Participants gathered for prayer and then listened to a guest speaker, Mr. Ben McIlwaine, representing the Council to Homeless Persons. Ben is a graduate member of The Peer Education Support Program, and delivered a presentation about his experience of homelessness. ‘Homelessness can happen to anyone regardless of age, religion, gender and race." he said. "But if it does happen, be aware that there is support available".
