From the Director of International Programs
Since 2010, Thomas Carr College has delivered the VCE in China program in conjuction with our Chinese partner schools. This is under licence from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).
Dr O’Connor attended St John’s College Braybrook which is now part of the Caroline Chisholm Catholic College complex and went on to graduate from La Trobe University. His first teaching appointment was at the then newly established Catholic Regional College, St. Albans and eventually taught at all the CRCs as they came on line at Melton, North Keilor and Sydenham.
After travelling and teaching abroad, Tom married and had two sons. Tom settled into teaching in Braybrook, raising children and getting a Master’s degree from his old University. Tom was part of the amalgamation of three schools, including his former high school and took on the role of Curriculum Co-ordinator, however, the call of far away places was heard again, and he and his family reloacted to the United Arab Emirates, working in its tertiary sector. It was during this period he completed his Doctorate.
Tom comes well qualified to take on the role of Director of International Programs. He believes in the importance of this program for students and teachers and will ensure the program grows in the coming years, ensuring our students will gain greater global understanding and eventually be able to experience life in a number of different Chinese cities.
Along with this, Tom intends to further develop our existing ties with Japan and Indonesia and to create new links in Italy. Students will soon have a wealth of overseas experiences to choose from.
