Welcome from the Principal
As Principal of Thomas Carr College I am pleased to introduce our College to you. Thomas Carr College was established in 1997 with an initial enrolment of 72 students. In 1998 we moved to our permanent site at 35 Thomas Carr Drive Tarneit. We currently have approximately 1200 students from Years 7 to 12.
As a Catholic School we aim to educate our students with an appreciation of the spiritual as well as the intellectual and physical aspects of their lives. We aim to work with our parents to produce young people of faith and character.
The College is situated on over 10 hectares of spacious grounds incorporating modern, state of the art facilities consisting of a newly built Middle School Science Centre, art and design rooms, technology (IT, materials, food, wood, fibre, media) laboraties, a well resourced Information Centre, drama and music rooms, along with a fully equipped gymnasium. We also have a first class oval for football and cricket, 8 multi purpose courts for tennis and basketball and practice areas for hockey and cricket.
In 2012 the College embarks upon a 10 year Master Building Plan which will see the development of a new Middle School, a Performing Arts Centre and a Student Services precinct. The first stage of the Master Plan commences in 2012 with the construction of a Year 7 and 8 building, providing for 20 classrooms and extensive flexible learning spaces.
2012 also sees the College enter into a partnership with the Australian Catholic University whereby we will be offering to our Year 12 students, Advanced Standing Studies. An Advanced Standing Study is a full first year University subject made up of two units, one offered in Semester One and the other offered in Semester Two. We have three classes of Advanced Standing Studies; two classes offered by the Faculty of Education will lead to students having completed a first year subject in a Bachelor of Education and one class offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences which will lead to students having completed a first year subject for a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery and a Bachelor of Paramedicine.
Our Alumni have succeeded in gaining entry to a wide range of University and TAFE institutions. These include Australian Catholic University , Melbourne University , Monash University , RMIT, Latrobe University , Swinburne University , Deakin University and Victoria University of Technology.
Thomas Carr College is a member of the Association of Co-educational Schools (ACS). This gives our students the opportunity to participate in an extensive weekly sport program. Through this program qualities of teamwork, school spirit and sportsmanship are promoted. This is in addition to a range of extra curricula activities including debating, public speaking, instrumental music and drama.
We welcome students from overseas who wish to study in Australia and we currently have students from several countries attending the College .
We offer an education that has both an international focus and a Catholic dimension. Our website is designed to show the many aspects of life at our College.
